2024-03-17
We congratulate all the people and components of the region on the occasion of the Eid Nowruz, this holiday that symbolizes the renewal of nature, love, tolerance, brotherhood and joy.
However, in recent years, as a result of decades of repression by the Syrian government, preventing the celebration of Nowruz holidays, and preventing the lighting of the Nowruz flame, some negative phenomena have entered the celebration methods, including the phenomenon of burning rubber tires on the eve of Nowruz, which results in serious negative effects, whether on the environment or It affects human health, as it consists of impure organic materials, which when burned emit toxic gases into the air, which are:
- Carbon monoxide gas (CO).
- Carbon dioxide gas CO2
- Sulfur dioxide gas, SO2
- H2H gas and suspended solid particles.
It also causes dangerous phenomena such as global warming, acid rain, and serious respiratory diseases, in addition to an uncivilized appearance.
Therefore, the reality of Nowruz, as the day of liberation from oppression and the beginning of spring, and its flame that symbolizes freedom, is not limited only to burning tires (tires), which are methods that pollute the environment and public health. Rather, tires (tires) can be replaced with aspects that are more civilized, safer, and less harmful to the environment, with a candle or torches, for example. .
We, in the Alliance of Organizations and civil society organizations working in northern and eastern Syria, endorse and support the campaign launched by the Environmental Committee in the schools of the Jazira region to cooperate in order to reduce this negative phenomenon that gives an incorrect and uncivilized impression of the reality of Nowruz and the symbolism of its flame.
