Reopening of the Semalka Border Crossing with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq

On Wednesday, the Semalka Border Crossing Administration announced the reopening of the crossing gates to passengers, one day after the closure decision. The Semalka Crossing Administration announced that work inside the crossing has returned to normal. A source told the Self-Administration Agency of Hawar: "Meetings between officials at Semalka crossing and FishKhabur crossing, are continuing, stressing that later a statement will be issued on the new resolutions on transit to and from Bashur Kurdistan, after the meetings." The Semalka border crossing is the only access in Northeastern Syria, linking the region with the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Foreign residents, nationalities, brides, patients, organizations staff and journalists are allowed to cross into the Kurdistan region of Iraq on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays every week.
