ASO Holds a Dialogue Session on the Occasion of ‘’ International Women's Day ‘’

On Wednesday, ASO Center for Consultancy and Strategic Studies held a dialogue and festive session on the occasion of International Women's Day, with the participation of 15 activist women in the field of civil society and women's rights.
The session started with distributing symbolic roses to the participants, and then a video was shown about the first women's participation in the peaceful demonstrations, demanding their rights, which was called the " The Demonstration of Bread and Roses ".
The importance of celebrating the International Women's Day was also discussed, with the aim of raising awareness of the significance of women's role and rights, especially in light of the conditions the region experience in general. In addition to discussing the importance of their role in social cohesion and in raising generations, as well as building family cohesion.
Among the activities held on the occasion of "International Women's Day" at ASO office in Amuda, Northeastern Syria, a video was shown about the most prominent women who ruled the world in ancient and modern times. Then another a video was shown about CEDAW, the Convention on the Elimination of All Discrimination Forms against Women, and what is included in the texts of the Convention, aiming at eliminating all forms of discrimination and violence against women through equal right between men and women to the enjoyment of all economic, political, cultural and civil rights.
It is noteworthy that the "CEDAW" Convention is an international treaty adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1979. It describes it as a document of international rights for women. The treaty was ratified on September 3, 1981, and signed by more than 189 countries, including more than 50 countries that agreed with some reservations and objections, including 38 countries that refused to apply Article 38 of the Convention, which relates to ways of settling disputes related to the understanding of the Convention.
The session concluded with a simple ceremony in which the most beautiful words of writers, philosophers and historical figures about women were presented and some songs about women and their holidays were played.
It is worth mentioning that "International Women's Day" is a global celebration that takes place on March 8, of each year, and is held to signify public respect, appreciation and love for women for their economic, political and social achievements, and the slogan for this year was ‘’ Equality between Gender Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’’.
