Founding Statement: Civil Society Organizations Platform in NES

The regions of NES have witnessed, during the past years, a growth in the work of local civil society organizations and have played an essential role in the effective influence on societal, political, economic, intellectual and developmental issues in the region, after decades of a complete absence of civil work in Syria in general, and in the eastern regions in particular.
Events and issues in NES have established the necessity of a joint, organized and coordinated work between civil organizations for the sake of networking, sharing and advocacy of issues that concern the locals and aim at supporting and developing the various sectors.
ASO Center for Strategic Studies and Consultancy have sent an official invitation, for additional several reasons and aims, to a group of civil organizations active on the ground in the governorates of Raqqa, Al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor in order to carry out consultations and dialogues regarding increasing coordination between civil organizations and creating an inclusive civil framework among them.
The meeting was attended by representatives of 43 local organizations on behalf of 65 member organizations on the platform, operating in the governorates of Raqqa, Al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor through Zoom application, in compliance with health conditions and social distancing in order to limit the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
The attendees referred to the necessity of coordination and cooperation between local civic organizations in the governorates of Raqqa, Al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor. Likewise, enhancing this cooperation in development and advocacy issues between civil organizations regarding matters that concern the local society and residents in NES. They have also, indicated the great significance of a civil framework that includes all civil actors in the region.
Based on the aforementioned, we, the signatories of this statement, announce the establishment of a civil society organizations platform in NES, which is an optional and voluntary gathering of civil society organizations in NES, for the sake of a coordinate collective action that aims at promoting development, meeting humanitarian needs, promoting respect of human rights in Syria and defending the interests of society in NES.
We will also, work through this platform to interact with the community, its issues and priorities. As well as, develop goals and programs and encourage societal participation in public life under laws in force, in order to contribute along all actors in the development of the civil community for a society where safety and stability prevail.
