ASO Center Holds a Dialogue Session on Women's Readings

On Thursday, March 31, ASO Center for Consultancy and Strategic Studies organized a dialogue session, entitled, "What Do Women Read…How Do They Read and why?", at its office in Amuda, Northeastern Syria, at 10:00 am, where the session lasted for 5 hours.
This activity was held on the occasion of spring and women's holidays and within the strategy ASO’s strategy in supporting women at all levels, and their role in building society. It worth noting that the activity was held in cooperation with Hermas Development and Reconstruction Organization, with the presence of more than 20 participants of the actors in the region.
Mr. Jumma Khezim, the director of ASO Center’s office in Amuda, moderated the session, where the session was focused on reader women and how they play a major role in making the family reader and thus a reader’s society.
The session began with a quote written by the French writer and philosopher, Voltaire, who said: "I was asked who would lead mankind? I replied, "Those who know how to read".
Then the participants began to discuss the importance of reading for women, by displaying a video that focused on the reason and importance of reading and what women read.
In the second axis of the session, Dr. Azad Ali, director of Hermas Development and Reconstruction Organization said that ‘’There are no magic solutions, but rather long-term plans aimed at instilling a love of reading in future generations, and this can’t be accomplished without women (the mother, the educator and the reading teacher). He also added, ‘’ Let’s make women love reading, embrace it with passion and express themselves in writing. ‘’
Writer and novelist Haitham Hussein, in the UK, also participated in the session through ZOOM platform, speaking about his experience in reading and writing, indicating the importance of supporting and encouraging women to read and write.
He concluded, ‘’ reading helps them acquire more knowledge, strengthen their own capabilities and discover their inner potential, which in return will change their lives for the better and create more advanced society.’’
It is noteworthy that such activities are the first of their kind in terms of topic and methodology, held by ASO Center for Consultancy and Strategic Studies.
ASO Center has also provided opportunities for training, capacity development and work for volunteers in Northeastern Syria since its establishment.
